  • The Zoo Story

Cover and illustration, The Zoo Story

Trying to illustrate one of my favourites: The Zoo Story by Edward Albee. One of the main ingredients in the play is the hideous dog that Jerry's desperately trying to fight back against in "The story of Jerry and the dog". In the form of a shadow that's falling on the park bench, I let the dog represent Jerrys demons, his verbal attack on Peter and the exaggeration of his stories. But not without losing the underlying humour of the play (hopefully).

The left image is an illustration to a section where Jerry and Peter are discussing their relations to family and, in Jerrys case, lovers. He confesses his teenage love affair with the park superintendent's son, but affirms that now he really loves the ladies, for about an hour.
